A beautifully balanced pair of kiln-dried ash wood slabs, hand sourced by Lou. These stunning pieces have been carefully prepared and are resin ready, with no moisture present, making them ideal for resin pours, charcuterie boards, or decorative shelving projects.

Each piece features the distinctive pale grain and golden warmth of British ash wood, full of natural charm and smooth texture. One slab appears slightly lighter in tone, this is simply because it has been through the belt sander, creating a finer, more polished finish. The pair are otherwise very similar cuts, making them perfect for creating matching charcuterie boards, coordinated resin art, or a stylish pair of shelves for your studio, kitchen, or living space.

Measuring approximately 40cm in length, 14–15cm in width, and 3cm in depth, these slabs offer excellent proportions for crafting substantial, elegant pieces that showcase both the natural grain and the beauty of resin work.

Features:

  • Sold as a pair of kiln-dried ash wood slabs
  • Moisture-free and resin ready for creative projects
  • Size: Approx. 40cm (L) x 14–15cm (W) x 3cm (D)
  • One slab is slightly lighter due to belt sanding

These show-stopping ash slabs are the perfect duo for makers who love working with natural materials. Whether you’re crafting statement home décor or preparing unique Christmas gifts, this pair is ready to become something truly special.

Here are some top tips for working with your resin-ready wood slabs, perfect for crafting charcuterie boards, trays, and resin art pieces:

  1. Remove all bark and debris before pouring resin.
Gently use a chisel and small hammer, tapping along the edge to lift and break off the bark. This helps reveal the clean, natural edge of the wood. Once removed, sand away any remaining debris or loose fibres, this prevents bits from floating into your resin pour and ensures a smooth, professional finish.
  2. Seal your wood before pouring resin.
If you’ve gilded or decorated your wood surface, apply a thin coat of clear resin or wood sealant to protect those details before your main pour. However, if you’re using a high-quality deep-cast resin such as Apex Resin, sealing the edges isn’t required. In fact, Lou recommends not sealing the natural wood edges, allowing the resin to seep into the grain helps create better adhesion and a more seamless bond between the wood and resin.
  3. Check for moisture content.
Even though kiln-dried wood is moisture-free, it’s always a good idea to store your slab in a warm, dry environment before use. This keeps the wood stable and prevents warping when resin is added.
  4. Level your workspace.
Before pouring, ensure your slab sits flat and level, this avoids uneven resin flow and ensures your finished piece cures evenly. A simple spirit level works wonders here.
  5. Finish with a sand and polish.
Once your resin has cured, sand through the grits until smooth, then polish or oil the wood to bring out its natural beauty and create a luxurious, tactile finish.

These simple but effective steps will help you achieve a professional-quality resin and wood finish, making the most of every beautiful grain and detail in your slab.
