This workshop is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and allow music to guide your creative expression. Working intuitively on an A3 canvas, you will respond to carefully chosen pieces of music, letting sound, rhythm, and silence shape your marks, colours, and textures.
There is no expectation to create a finished “picture”. Instead, this is about process over outcome, allowing emotion to move through paint, line, and layer. Music has a powerful way of unlocking feelings we don’t always have words for, and this session creates space for that release.
This can be a raw and deeply emotional experience. Some participants may feel sadness, grief, or vulnerability, and it is not uncommon for tears to arise. This workshop is held as a respectful, compassionate space where all emotions are valid and welcome. What is shared visually or emotionally remains confidential within the group.
You will work primarily with acrylics, with a mixed media approach encouraged. Inks, glitters, and sparkle are available for those who feel drawn to them, allowing for both gentle and expressive layers. Participants are welcome to explore freely, following instinct rather than instruction, supported by gentle guidance throughout.
What to expect:
- A calm, supportive art therapy environment
- Guided intuitive painting in response to music
- A3 canvas provided
- Acrylic paints, inks, glitter, and mixed media materials available
- Emotional expression honoured and respected
- No art experience required, just openness and curiosity
This workshop is suitable for those seeking emotional release, creative exploration, or a deeper connection between sound and self. You are invited to come exactly as you are, and to be held by the music as your colour finds its way.
There is a welcoming space outside of the class - should you wish to take 5 mins to reflect or catch a breath.
Working with colour and emotion in this way is an essential part of an artist’s practice because it allows us to listen beneath the surface of our usual making. When we pause to ask how am I feeling? and let sound, movement, and instinct guide our choices, we uncover emotional palettes that often sit quietly beneath our conscious ideas.
These sessions can reveal unexpected colour stories, textures, and rhythms that later find their way into resin work, mixed media pieces, and future collections. A feeling might become a colour pairing, a moment in the music might suggest a new surface, finish, or form.
By honouring emotion as a creative compass, we give ourselves permission to create work that is more honest, more connected, and more alive, shaping collections that don’t just look beautiful, but feel meaningful.
Lou truly believes that working intuitively and allowing ourselves to feel is how artists begin to uncover their own visual language. In a world where we are constantly influenced by trends, algorithms, and the work of others, turning inward becomes an act of creative self-trust. When artists create from emotion rather than expectation, their choices of colour, texture, and form become more personal and instinctive, and that is where style quietly takes shape. By listening to inner responses instead of external noise, artists can develop work that feels authentic, grounded, and unmistakably their own.
