Our Eco Pour Matt Varnish is a clear, water-based protective varnish, perfect for sealing Eco Pour, eco resin, composite casting materials, mineral casting compounds and mixed media projects.

Designed to protect your finished creations while maintaining that beautiful natural, stone-like matt appearance, it’s ideal for makers who want protection without adding a glossy or overly shiny finish.

Use it to finish handmade trays, coasters, pots, ornaments, decorative castings, terrazzo-style pieces and other Eco Pour home décor. Once dry, the varnish leaves a clear matt finish, allowing your colours, pigments, marbling and decorative details to remain the star of the show.

How to Use Eco Pour Matt Varnish

Make sure your Eco Pour or composite casting is completely dry, clean and free from dust before applying your varnish.

For standard application, use a soft brush or suitable applicator to apply a thin, even layer across the surface. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next. We recommend 2–3 thin coats to build up an even, protective matt finish.

Got a Delicate Pigmented Surface?

If you've created a finish using water-based pigments, washes or other effects that could smudge when repeatedly brushed, the varnish can be mixed with a dash of water and applied using a suitable fine-mist spray bottle.

Spraying allows you to lay down a light initial protective coat without dragging a brush backwards and forwards across vulnerable water-based pigment effects, helping to reduce the risk of disturbing, smearing or smudging your design.

Build up several light sprayed coats rather than saturating the surface, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Once the delicate surface has been sealed, further coats can be applied as required.

Important – Choosing the Right Sealer

Our Eco Pour Matt Varnish is designed as a protective decorative sealer for Eco Pour, composite casting and mixed media projects. It’s perfect for everyday decorative makes, helping to seal porous surfaces and protect your finished colours, pigments and effects.

For projects that will be exposed to heavy oils, fragrance oils, essential oils or waxes – particularly the inside of candle vessels or other containers where these substances may sit directly against the sealed surface, we recommend choosing a more heavy-duty, non-water-based sealant specifically designed for that intended use.

This varnish is therefore ideal for sealing and finishing the outside of decorative candle vessels, but we would not recommend relying on it as the protective barrier inside a vessel that will come into direct or prolonged contact with wax, fragrance or essential oils.

Always choose a sealant appropriate for the intended use of your finished piece and follow the sealant manufacturer's safety and application guidance.
